Faith And Those Little Annoyances Life Sends Our Way
By Brian | June 6, 2008
I’m in the process of putting together a new audio commentary on the stormy seas of life. In the process of exploring the Word, I came across this verse in Acts.
And she did this for many days. Then Paul, being sorely annoyed and worn out, turned and said to the spirit within her, I charge you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her! And it came out that very moment. - Acts 16:18
For a little background here, Paul had met up with Timothy. Timothy had been circumcised and they, together, had been led to Macedonia. There they meet a slave that is held by a spirit of divination that made copious amounts of money for her owners. So the slave girl started following Paul & Timothy shouting “These men are the servants of the Most High God! They announce to you the way of salvation!” (Acts 16:17.) Apparently after a few days of this Paul had become “sorely annoyed and worn out, turned and said to the spirit within her, I charge you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” (Acts 16:18.)
This really amazes me. Paul could have told her to leave. He could have brought her to her owners. There are all kinds of things he could have done. Instead his natural reaction was one of faith; and what faith! There was no wondering what would happen. There was no “hoping” in Paul. He had complete and utter confidence that what he said would be done.
Paul was certainly a man of steadfast faith.
