What Has He Done For Me?
By Brian | June 2, 2008
I was thinking today about what exactly He has done for me. A lot of areas in my life are extremely chaotic at the moment. My wife is divorcing me and I have very little time with my youngest son Isaac. The whole situation is so incredibly surreal that it’s difficult to stay on top of all the little nuances. I have to remember though, that while I can’t stay on top of everything going on (and probably wouldn’t want to know anyway,) He can. He knows the hair on our heads[a], He doesn’t forget a single sparrow[b], surely He knows what’s going on and working accordingly.
Faith & trust come very hard for many of us. I will certainly admit to the fact that I’m one of the “us” I’m talking about here. I always try to bull my way through whatever problem comes. I want to “fix” the thing that’s going on rather than wait on the Lord. One of the beautiful things in this situation, with my wife filing divorce (there are silver linings in everything if you look hard enough,) is that there is nothing I can do BUT have faith. There are no other choices.
There have been a lot of other good things to happen since this situation began. I wouldn’t have dreamed a year ago to write about anything publicly, certainly not my relationship with God. And public speaking never would have happened with my lispy voice yet here I am with actual messages, in that voice I can’t stand, recorded and on my website.
I’m stubborn, and I’m not the only one. He uses our failings, our trials, our difficulties to rebuild us to be what He needs us to be. That’s both the beauty and difficulty of being a Christian. We can struggle, we can fight, but eventually, like Jonah[c] we’re brought to where he needs us to be, even if we struggle all the way.
